Here are descriptions of our volunteer activities.
Front/Receiving Lobby
Tasks: Greet customers, answer phones, file, logging in donations, writing thank you’s,
answering basic questions, directing guest to the adoption kennel areas. Take incoming lost/found animal reports.
Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, friendly, neat handwriting, accuracy.
- Mon., Fri. and Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Tues. and Thursday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
(Closed Wednesday and Sunday)
Kennel Assistant (Cleaning) – Daily at 8am
Tasks: The shelter must be kept clean to ensure the health and comfort of the animals. This includes feeding, hosing down, disinfecting, and wiping down of all soiled kennel surfaces, and washing of food utensils, toys and bedding is done daily.
Time required: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
Location: Dog adoption area
Qualifications: Ability to follow directions, multi-task, and practice strict safety guidelines.
Feline Care (Cleaning) – Daily at 8am
Tasks: Assist the staff with cleaning cages which may include: feeding, handling soiled bedding, litter boxes, etc.
Time required: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
Location: Cat adoption area
Qualifications: Ability to follow directions, multi-task, and practice strict safety guidelines.
Walk, Socialize Dogs
Tasks: Socializing and exercising dogs, from our adoption kennels. Volunteers must be able to handle large, strong dogs. Volunteers are asked to attend the training class before they are permitted to handle the dogs. Additional training is required for this position.
Time required: 4 hours per week
Qualifications: Patience, energetic and must attend one training session. Ability to follow directions, multi-task, and practice strict safety guidelines.
Dog Walking Times: (5 days a week) Mon. Tues., Thurs., Fri. and Sat.) 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Cat Socializing
Tasks: Interact with cats in the adoption kennels.
Time required: 4 hours per week
Qualifications: Ability to practice strict safety guidelines, communicate effectively with the public and attend training session.
10:30am – 3:30pm
Delivery Collections
Tasks: Deliver newsletters, and flyers to local nursing homes, libraries, and veterinarian offices, pick up donations from our donation collection boxes.
Time required: 10 hours per month (Approximately)
Location: various locations around town.
Qualifications: Able to drive to pick up locations using your personal vehicle. Ability to act accordingly as a representative of the SEVHS. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and practice safety procedures.
Special Events
Tasks: Participate at special events and SEVHS fundraisers throughout the community.
Time required: 4 hours per shift at specified time.
Location: Various locations.
Qualifications: Dependability and ability to communicate effectively with the public. And act accordingly as a representative of the SEVHS, practice strict safety procedures.
Pet Therapy/Visitations
Tasks: Prepare and take dogs and/or cats to visit nursing homes. This program is year round. Additional training is required for this position.
Time required: Minimum of 4 hours per month.
Location: Designated locations in the community.
Qualifications: Dependability and commitment to the program is essential. Ability to act accordingly as representative of the SEVHS, and follow strict safety procedures. Ability to handle large animals safely.
Maintenance
Tasks: Mowing, and weed eating flower beds, picking up debris on SEVHS grounds. General Housekeeping, wiping door frames, picture frames, sanitizing doors and knobs, cleaning glass, sweeping sidewalks
Time required: During summer months mowing needs to be done weekly.
Location: SEVHS Grounds
Qualifications: Dependability, ability to follow directions and practice strict safety guidelines.
