Teenager Shows Her Compassion by “Action” for Our Shelter

Ryleigh, an awesome 13 year old, lives in New Smyrna Beach. She came to our shelter and wanted to make a difference in the lives of our four-legged furry animals. Being too young to volunteer, she did some thinking outside the box and decided to start a business of making dog and cat t-shirts to help make money for Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

Ryleigh has created four different shirts with dog and cat themes as well as her logo which is One Silly Dog. A shirt costs $8.00 to make and she sells them for $10.00. She gives the profits to Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

I asked her why she decided to do this.

She said,”I am an animal lover and I wanted to do something to help all the animals.”

On each of her t-shirts she has a tag that says, “Buy a t-shirt, tell a friend, and help a furry friend.

She is in the process of getting a website up and running to sell her shirts. When the site is finished, you can go to Onesillydog.com and see what a special, creative young lady Ryleigh truly is. Recently Ryleigh got a booth at the Home show last weekend and sold her shirts and collected donations. She presented a check of $60.00 to SEV Humane Society.

I found out that Ryleigh has given in other ways, too. She has donated her hair to Locks of Love four times.

How lucky we are to have a young person who cares so much about helping others. I think that Ryleigh is going to do okay when she grows up. She has already learned one of the most important lessons in life–how important it is to help others and our furry friends in this very hard world we live in today.
